The new 2022 BMW 3 Series is here with a new face and a curved display

BMW has updated the 3 Series once again with a few design tweaks as well other enhancements for 2022.
The most noticeable change is the face of the 3 Series itself, which now comes with redesigned headlights and kidney grille.

The standard full-LED headlights are now much slimmer, with clear contours and daytime driving lights arranged in an inverted L shape to create a harmonious and modern look.

Adaptive LED Headlights are available as an option, and are identifiable by the blue accents inside their covers.

As for the kidney grille, the lightly modified contours and new double bars give it an even more powerful look.

Further complementing the face of the 3 Series are the air intakes in Black high-gloss which are positioned below the kidney grille.

At the rear, we have a new rear apron which makes the base 3 Series look classier and more matured than the current-gen model. The M Sport version here however is looking more radical than before, don’t you think?

The M High-gloss Shadowline trim is now standard as well. Added to which, standard specification for all 3 Series Sedan models now includes 17-inch light-alloy wheels.

The 3 Series can be further strengthened with the M Sport package. It brings new design features including a honeycomb pattern for the BMW kidney grille, a new design for the front and rear aprons and the new 18-inch M light-alloy wheels.

The range of exterior colours has been expanded to include Skyscraper Grey metallic and M Brooklyn Grey metallic as part of the M Sport package.

The BMW Individual Frozen Pure Grey metallic and Frozen Tanzanite Blue metallic special paint finishes have been added to the range too.

Moving into the cabin, the 3 Series now comes with standard-fit BMW Curved Display. A 12.3-inch information display behind the steering wheel and a control display with a screen diagonal of 14.9 inches merge together into a single fully digital and high-resolution unit.

The selector lever for the eight-speed Steptronic transmission also has a new design. It is positioned in the control panel on the centre console along with the Start/Stop button, iDrive Controller, Driving Experience Control buttons, parking brake and other vehicle functions.

An automatic climate control system with three-zone adjustment is also fitted as standard in the new BMW 3 Series. Other new additions to standard specification include an automatically dimming rear-view mirror, the extended storage package and Park Distance Control (PDC) with sensors at the front and rear. All models now also come with the BMW Live Cockpit Plus including BMW Maps navigation system. As for the powertrains, the ones that are most likely to come to Malaysia will be the various versions of the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the 320i and the 330i, producing 184 PS and 300 Nm, and 245 PS and 400 Nm respectively.

Since we also have the M340i xDrive and the 330e, we could see the 3.0-litre turbo engine making 374 PS and 500 Nm, and the PHEV variant’s 292 PS and 420 Nm hybrid powertrain which includes an electric motor. All variants will come with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Standard driver assistance features include Front Collision Warning with brake intervention, Cruise Control with brake function, Speed Limit Display with no-overtaking indicator, Manual Speed Limit Assist, and Lane Departure Warning with lane return.
Last but not least, infotainment comes courtesy of the latest generation of BMW Operating System 8 which supports 5G mobile technology, the BMW ID for individualising the user experience, and further improved smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
