Exploring Australia is more than just a job for flight attendant Crystal Nappo; it’s a family affair.
With three young boys – 13-year-old Joey and 12-year-old twins, Ronan and Max – Crystal and her husband Frank often head out from their Coburg home for a weekend away into country Victoria, like their recent road trip to the picturesque Yalloak House near Birregurra.
Yalloak House is a renovated early 20th century farmstay that sleeps eight and is nestled on the banks of the Barwon River with views of the Otway ranges.
“Now that things are opening up again, it is amazing to get out and explore our own backyard,” Crystal Nappo told carsales.
“And Yalloak House was amazing; such a beautiful and quiet property.”
The 90-minute drive was just as pleasant as the destination thanks to the spacious and luxurious, eight-seat all-new Hyundai STARIA Highlander.
“Road trips are something we enjoy doing and having such a spacious family car makes it easier and more enjoyable for everyone,” said Nappo.
“We meandered through the countryside and stopped a few times along the way, to get some breakfast and a coffee.
“Having all that space in the back for the boys is great for everyone. It was perfect because the boys were all spread out and weren’t cooped-up shoulder-to-shoulder together and fighting. They had so much room to themselves, and still there was heaps of boot space for luggage.
“They also love the full-length sunroof; it makes the cabin feel even bigger and more spacious.”
The Nappo family are just as impressed by the all-new STARIA’s design, with the boys calling it a “spaceship”.
That futuristic exterior is carried over into the cabin too with twin 10.25-inch digital displays – one for the instrument cluster and a central screen for the infotainment that includes satellite navigation and smartphone mirroring for Apple and Android mobile devices – and high-tech conveniences such as five USB charging ports plus one multimedia port, heated and ventilated front seats and multi-zone air-conditioning with separate controls for front and rear seat occupants and vents in all three rows.
“I’m a flight attendant myself and I felt like I was in the cockpit of a plane. It was amazing,” said Nappo.
“I was blown away by the screen in the middle and how many features it has, including the 360º Surround View Monitor with the bird’s eye view of the car; that made parking so much easier, especially because it is a big car.
“I think it looks great inside and out, and the boys reckon it looks like a spaceship.”
As for the driving experience, Frank Nappo admits to how car-like the STARIA feels on the road and appreciates the performance and economy of its grunty 130kW/430Nm 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine with a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic gearbox, the added security of active on-demand all-wheel drive and its 2500kg (braked) towing capacity.
“It is really comfortable and drives more like an SUV,” he said.
“It feels really secure and smooth and is amazingly quiet on the road.”
