The third X Concept from Genesis might be its most successful bit of design yet.
GenesisGenesis has been on a roll with its electric vehicle concepts. Back in March of 2021, the automaker pulled the cover off of the gorgeous Genesis X Concept, which the brand followed with the X Speedium Coupe this past August. Now the automaker is ready to show off yet another stylish EV concept ahead of the Los Angeles Auto Show. In proper California fashion, the all-new Genesis X Convertible concept is a drop-top EV that looks perfectly poised for a cruise down the Pacific Coast Highway or up Rodeo Drive.
Like the two X-branded concepts that came before it, this new electric convertible is blessed with some truly elegant design work. The four-seat drop-top carries the proportions of an old-school grand tourer, complete with the long hood and stretched wheelbase that have defined the segment. The front overhang is nice and short, which lends a bit of athleticism to the form. Similar to the other X Concepts, Hyundai has managed to bring a rearward slope to the surfacing, which also helps the hard-top convertible appear as if it’s in motion at all times. While the lighting elements are similar to those found on the previous concepts, the automaker used lights to create the grille shape we’ve come to expect from Genesis. The entire design is anything but fussy, instead relying on simplicity. Genesis has even gone as far as to say that this design is the beacon of the brand moving forward.

The architecture and powertrain sitting beneath the beautiful bodywork of the X Convertible is shared with previous X Concepts, though Genesis hasn’t been forthcoming with details related to technical specifications. The interior appointments found in the previous concepts are also shared in this instance, notably including a large wrap-around instrument cluster and infotainment setup. The interior is also rather driver focused, almost mirroring the C8 Corvette with its wall of buttons. Of course there are few physical buttons to be found in this futuristic vehicle, instead appearing to opt for the ever-derided capacitive touch solution. The interior also features some nods to Korean architecture, with the Giwa Navy color drawing its name from popular roof tile materials in the peninsular nation. The Dancheong Orange are a nod to decorative colors found on traditional wooden structures in Korea. The interior is covered with recycled wool.

Unfortunately for all of us, it is unlikely that Genesis will put any of these X concept vehicles into production as they currently sit. That said, these sort of design projects can often inspire specific design elements on series production models. Genesis has been pushing against our expectations of Korean automakers, and we hope to see more exciting shapes coming out of their design studio.
