Inspired by the Rent-A-Racers of yore, Shelby and Hertz are back at it again.

It’s 1966 and you can’t afford a Shelby Mustang GT350 but you want to go hit a track. Well, Hertz offered a Rent-A-Racer program that would let you slide behind the wheel of a special Hertz-liveried Shelby Mustang for only $17 a day. Those days might be long gone, but the idea of renting a high-performance pony car from Hertz is apparently alive and well. Hertz is rolling a new fleet of hopped-up Mustangs through its showrooms in the legendary Hertz Mustang livery.
The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500-H might be a mouthful, but it’s just a long way of saying you want a 900+ hp Mustang. As the name suggests, this Mustang is based on the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and most will wear the iconic gold stripes that tell the world that it’s a special Hertz edition. While it’s based on the 760 hp GT500, this Hertz edition sees a larger supercharger, a cat-back exhaust and some other performance modifications to squeeze more power out of the 5.2-liter V8.
Hertz isn’t only bringing the GT500 into the fold for this three-year agreement with Shelby. Shelby will also add some Ford Mustang GT-based examples into the company’s fleet. These might not be as powerful as the GT500-H models, but with 450 hp on tap: it should still be fun.
Now, you might not be able to rent any of these if you don’t live near the relatively limited markets. According to Shelby, the GT500-H will be available in Fort Myers, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, Phoenix, and Tampa. The GT-H will be available in Atlanta, Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, and Tampa. Making matters even worse, it seems like only 25 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500-H examples will see production, with Shelby saying 19 will wear the iconic black and gold livery, with six wearing white and gold.
Even though this seems limited, this will some vacations a lot more exciting.
