The F-150 Lightning gets onboard Pro Power generators to charge other electric vehicles apart from performing its duties as your regular work truck
The Blue Oval announced the much-awaited all-electric pickup truck that also has the ability to charge other electric cars, accomplished without any special accessory.
Stepping up its EV game in the light of competition from the Tesla Cybertruck and Rivian R1T, Ford has come out with the electrified F-150 models in the United States. The new range of electric trucks – Lightning and PowerBoost are available with 7.2 kW or 9.6 kW onboard generators that can be used to charge other electric cars and possibly plug-in hybrids as well.
Ford F-150 Lightning Pro Power Onboard
The Ford F-150 Lightning comes with a 240-volt plug for Level 2 charging capability. It is optional equipment but the 2.4 kW variant of the Pro Power Onboard is standard with the Lightning electric and PowerBoost hybrid pickups and there is no need for the 240-volt plug.
According to Ford, the trucks can add up to 20 miles or about 32 km of range to the Mustang Mach-E equipped with the biggest battery pack in an hour. Charging another F-150 Lightning will add about 13 miles of range and the E-Transit will get about 10 miles.

Sure, those figures are not very exciting and are not creating any new charging speed records. But this is a first-of-its-kind technology that can come pretty handy if you’re the helpful kind and would like to help a stranded electric vehicle on the highway or provide some juice to the fellow off-roader.

In fact, according to Ford, the F-150 Lightning is powerful enough to power an entire house for a couple of days, in case of a power outage.
