Buick currently sells a version of its Envision SUV with three rows of seating, dubbed the Envision Plus, in the Chinese market, and a similar model could soon come stateside with a different name. GM Authority caught a trademark filing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a Buick Envision GX. The “GX” moniker suggests a bigger model is coming, likely to include another third-row seating offer in Buick’s SUV lineup.
Buick recently introduced two versions of its subcompact Encore model, with the standard sized car joined by a slightly bigger (and much newer) version dubbed the Encore GX, intended for those who needed just a little more room. Now, it looks like the current two-row compact Envision SUV will be getting a similar treatment with an Envision GX that is slightly bigger, but still slots under the midsize three-row Enclave SUV, which is currently Buick’s only seven-seat SUV on sale stateside.
In China, the Buick Envision Plus features an 8.0-inch-longer wheelbase, maximum cargo volume of 58 cubic feet, and offers seven seats from the base model up through the trim lineup. The second row of seats come with adjustable seatbacks, and can slide on 9.0-inch rails for easier entry and exit for the two third-row seats in the back. The Envision Plus also features slightly more aggressive redesigned styling on the exterior, like the dark red model pictured above with the Chinese license plates.
It’s unclear if the U.S. Envision GX will be a renamed version of the made-in-China Plus, or a slightly tweaked and unique model tuned specifically for the U.S. market. The Buick Envision Plus launched in China last summer, and we figure this new U.S. trademark could indicate we can expect our version, the Envision GX, to arrive this summer, though we’ll have to wait and see.
