Following the launch of the face-lifted BMW X5 and X6, the newly updated M Competition variants of the twin Sports Activity Vehicles have finally been unveiled, now housing more power thanks to electricity.

You heard that right: The X5 and X6 M Competition are now mild-hybrid vehicles in their awaited Life Cycle Impulse (LCI) versions. Both still have the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 found in the M60i xDrive variant, but now paired with a 48V battery that adds 12hp, bringing the total output to 625hp (with 750Nm of torque). The eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission with Drivelogic also has been improved from the pre-facelift.

Aesthetic changes include the new, sharper Matrix LED lights, also found on the regular LCI X5 and X6, and an all-black kidney grille with horizontal slats. Interior and safety features have also been updated similar to their respective regular models, especially with the same 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 14.9-inch infotainment screen fitted with the well-known iDrive infotainment system based on the latest Operating System 8, and the new front-collision warning system.

BMW did not specify any launch date, but the updated BMW X5 and X6 M Competition will most likely be unveiled later this April, alongside their normal counterparts.
