The BMW M4 CSL has been on top of the agenda for the Bavarian brand over the course of the year. It has been spotted in testing at the famed Nürburgring, honing in its performance capabilities and South Africa will now be home to the iconic nameplate from the BMW performance branch.

Only 1 000 units will be produced globally and BMW has assigned 15 units for the German-crazed South African market. Priced from R3 570 038, it won’t be cheap but as the two previous iterations have proved, the CSL nameplate is one reserved for true enthusiasts and collectors.

Under the surface are many components borrowed from the M4 GT3 car. A 3,0-litre in-line 6 puts out a whopping 405 kW and 650 N.m of torque which powers the rear wheels exclusively via an 8-speed M Steptronic automatic gearbox. The model is claimed to hit 100 km/h from standstill in 3,7 seconds while less weight, adaptive suspension and added downforce help keep traction around corners.
For context, the M4 CSL was capable of lapping the Green Hell in 7:20.207 while its standard counterpart only managed the same circuit in 7:30.790. The Bavarian automaker will display the purpose-built machine on local soil for the first time at the BMW M Fest in October.
