The Consumer Reports page on the 2023 Kia EV6 looks like a Boston bar on St. Paddy’s day; green as hell. The 2023 Kia EV6 is the highest-ranking luxury SUV tested by CR. This is a pretty big deal considering it’s up against contenders like the BMW X5, the Lincoln Navigator, the Porsche Cayenne, and even Genesis GV80. to say that Kia has arrived is an understatement. Kia is a force for all marques to contend with on every level.

What is the Kia EV6?
The Kia EV6 is a strange sort of crossover SUV that uses only electric motors to make, at a minimum, 225 hp. In its middling form, the dual-motor EV6 AWD makes 320 hp. At the top of the heap is the Kia EV6 GT, which makes a tremendous 576 hp.
No matter which trim you choose, the Kia EV6 is a sharp, luxurious, futuristic mix of a giant sports car and a small SUV. While this can easily be a bad mix, usually ending up being a mix of the worst of each category, what makes the EV6 so special is that Kia took only the best parts of each segment and left the bad parts out; smart.

When I had the EV6 GT for a week earlier this past summer, I found that the range estimation was pretty accurate. However, things like climate control greatly affect the range, but thankfully, the EV6 adjusts the range in real time.
Charging was difficult and time-consuming, given the chargers I had access to in the rural northeast. However, regenerative breaking, although a little grabby at times, does help keep a little juice while on the move. Kia claims that thanks to its 235-kilowatt acceptance rate, the battery can go from a 10-percent state-of-charge to 80 percent in 18 minutes.

The RWD EV6 can hit 60 mph in 7.2 seconds in its least-powerful form. That isn’t all that impressive, but that model is geared toward the range, not performance. However, the AWD dual-motor configuration hits 60 mph in only 4.6 seconds. The real show happens in the 2023 Kia EV6 GT, which can hit 60 mph in a staggering 3.4 seconds and tops out at 161 mph. That acceleration is nearing Lamborghini Huracan speeds.

At a starting price of only $48,500, this luxurious future mobile is a no-brainer, especially against other luxury EVs. As charging becomes more readily available and the range continues to grow, it is easy to see the EV6 line boom into a brand staple for Kia, and we are here for it.
