Genesis just hit a winning streak with the new G90 flagship luxury sedan
Just a few weeks ago, Genesis pulled the wraps off its new G90 flagship luxury sedan, but only a few exterior photos were released. This time, however, every single detail about the G90 has been revealed, including its gorgeously-design interior.
We won’t dwell too much on the exterior design as this has already been tackled in a prior article. What has been confirmed at this point are its pop-out door handles, which automatically deploy as the driver approaches the vehicle. Also new for the G90 is the Hyundai Group’s newest Digital Key 2 system, which lets owners automatically open the car’s doors if they are near the vehicle.
The Genesis G90 also comes with an EasyClose system, which comes with an electronic latch for opening the doors. It also has a self-closing door feature that’s similar to what various Rolls-Royce vehicles and the Mercedes-Benz EQS already have. The driver’s door can even be programmed in a way that it automatically closes once the brakes have been pressed.
A Luxurious And Modern Interior With A Touch Of Korean Culture
As for its interior design, Genesis says that the all-new G90 is designed “to satisfy both customers who take the wheel themselves and those who are driven by chauffeurs.” The front section is dominated by two 12.3-inch screens for the digital gauges and the infotainment, while music is played through a 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. There’s also a fingerprint authentication system that’s linked to the driver’s personal vehicle settings, while the operating system of the infotainment supports over-the-air (OTA) updates
The opulent and luxurious interior of the new Genesis G90 combines modern design elements with a bit of Korean culture in its design details.
Another highlight of the dash design is the generous amounts of leather and Newspaper Crown or Newspaper Stripe wood trim. The “Newspaper” aspect comes from the fact that the wood trim is manufactured through a “new method that minimizes its impact on the environment by reprocessing wastepaper from daily life, including newspapers.”
Genesis is also proud to highlight its metal inlays, which supposedly pay homage to the traditional Korean crafting technique of sanggam. What this basically points out is that the metal is laid into the wood trims and it can feature either the G-Matrix pattern found in the grille or the Two Line motif of the headlights.
Other interior highlights are the fragrance system, which is able to accommodate two cartridges. Owners can choose between The Driver’s Awakening, The Great Outdoors, and My Favorite Place. There are also “ergo-relaxing” front seats that feature ten air cells on the seatback and two air cells on the cushion. This enables various body massage functions, including full-body, waist, pelvis, and upper body, with three options for massage duration and strength.
Of course, the Genesis G90 is also catered to those who prefer being driven, and its amenities certainly do not disappoint. Those on the right side (or left in the case of right-hand drive models) benefit from VIP seats, which feature electronic recline, heating and ventilation, along with a massage function.
All of these features can be controlled through the 8-inch touch screen that’s mounted on the armrest. There’s even storage in the C-pillar area that can store books and magazines.
Twin-Turbo V6 Engines Come As Standard
The South Korean market Genesis G90 will be powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine that produces 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque, driving either the rear or all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic. These numbers are exactly the same as the one in the G80, which should mean that these two vehicles share the same powertrain. The American version’s powertrain will be announced closer to its arrival for the 2023 model year.
The Genesis G90 is powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 in South Korea while the long wheelbase version benefits from the addition of a 48-volt electric supercharger
The long-wheelbase version will only be available with all-wheel drive (AWD), while for this version, the 3.5-liter V-6 mill will be mated to a first-ever 48-volt electric supercharger. No further details have been provided for this powertrain, however.
An Easy-To-Maneuver Large Luxury Sedan
Genesis also packed a lot of new features in the G90 that enhance its driving performance. One of these is called a Preview-Electronic Control Suspension, wherein a forward-facing camera monitors road conditions and adjusts its ride constantly. This also works in conjunction with the multi-chamber air suspension which can raise the car’s ride height by an inch.
If the system detects that you’re coming down a steep slope, the front wheels will be raised automatically to prevent the vehicle from scraping. Likewise, if you’re driving on a highway or through rough pavement, the ride height automatically raises or lowers, depending on the road conditions.

The Genesis G90 also comes with a new rear-wheel steer system. This allows the rear wheels to turn by as much as four degrees in the opposite direction at low speeds for a smaller turning radius, and to a maximum of two degrees in the same direction as the front wheels at high speeds for better stability.
Lastly, as if we haven’t had enough parameters to adjust in our vehicles, Genesis decided to add an adjustable braking system to the G90. One of its modes is called “Chauffeur” mode, which presumably helps in smoothening your erratic right foot’s inputs on the brakes.
When Will It Arrive In North America?
Impressed? Well, we sure are. Genesis has come up with a flagship luxury sedan that could pose a real threat to the German offerings. If you want one, you have to wait a bit longer before it arrives in North America. The Genesis G90 will go on sale in global markets as a 2022 model year vehicle, while it will arrive a little later in the United States for the 2023 model year.
