Tesla not only produces some of the most efficient electric vehicles in the world, but it also happens to manufacture some of the fastest production vehicles as well. To showcase the speedy features in Tesla’s vehicles, they have various different modes, including a “Drag Strip Mode”.
Now Tesla has released a video that highlights this feature when taking a Tesla Model S or Model X to a dragstrip:

In the video, Chris from Tesla’s Performance Engineering team explains what the dragstrip mode does.
He explains how the drive units are cooled when this mode is initiated. That’s because the drive units make the most power when they are the coolest.
That’s definitely needed when you have over 760 kW in the tri-motor Model S Plaid. He further explains how the 100 kWh battery pack is also heated for optimum energy deliveries to the dual or tri-motor drivetrains.

When you head up to the dragstrip entry line, the car can do a “cheetah stance” so the car can accelerate with minimal drag as the front of the car is lowered.
“Drag Strip Mode preconditions the battery and drive units to ideal operating temperatures for maximum acceleration,” the manual says. “Cheetah Stance lowers the front suspension for optimal weight transfer during launch. Together, they help make Model S Plaid the quickest accelerating mass-production car on the planet.”

Tesla also provides a warning in its Model S owner manual that this mode is only to be used on closed tracks and not open public roads:
“Drag Strip Mode is designed for use on closed circuit driving courses only. It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure that driving style and acceleration do not endanger or inconvenience other road users.”
Tesla offers this as a feature in it’s high-end performance vehicles while maintaining exceptional safety standards. Late last year, the refreshed Tesla Model S was deemed one of the safest cars EuroNCAP had ever tested.

In Australia, order holders who have purchased are waiting even longer. Many current order holders have been waiting over 18 months for an update on their order.
