New South Wales electric vehicle uptake has been supercharged with new data showing another significant jump in the growth of Tesla’s fleet in the state. In September, Tesla delivered more EVs in NSW than any other state or territory in its local history.
What are some trends behind NSW’s strongest month of EV growth and will this continue?
NSW Tesla growth supercharged by over 18% in September
New data reveals that Tesla’s NSW fleet grew to over 12,000 EVs in the state. The best-selling EV brand in Australia delivered 1,904 new vehicles to NSW customers in September.
That’s the highest number of EVs that any manufacturer has ever delivered in a single state or territory in history. The overall Tesla EV fleet grew by 18.3%, eclipsing last month’s jump of 18.1%.

In the first nine months of 2022, Tesla has increased its total number of EVs in NSW by over 70% increase bringing it to 12,298 EVs in the state.
The breakdown in the September data between the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y is currently not available but will be in the coming weeks. We expect more deliveries of Model Y in September than in August which was the first month of the SUV’s deliveries in the state.
Drilling into the new monthly delivery data, we can see some interesting trends.
White dominates while red delivered become scarce
White once again topped the charts with 55% of all new Teslas delivered in the state. That’s up by 2% when compared to August deliveries.

Red Tesla deliveries slowed down a bit further with only 5% of them making it to NSW roads during the month.
That also hints toward more Model Ys being delivered than the previous month as the majority of Model Ys delivered in the state during August were also white.
During September, Grey (also known as Midnight Silver Metalic) and blue remained fairly consistent with what NSW customers received in August.
Tesla fleet is predicted to double in NSW this year
With interest in EVs at an all-time high and the pandemic mostly behind us, NSW Tesla uptake is set to soar during the remainder of the year. Tesla’s total fleet will more than double as more ships with thousands more Teslas head towards the state. We expect the Tesla fleet to surpass 15,000 EVs in NSW by the end of 2022.
Part of the reason behind these supercharged deliveries has been the high demand this year due to subsidies on offer by the NSW government which began 12 months ago in September 2021.

This has been a very successful program to increase EV uptake in the state. Tesla’s Model 3 RWD has qualified for the $3,000 subsidy throughout 2022 and makes a large chunk of EV deliveries so far this year.
With many more EV subsidies on offer, rising fuel prices, growing charging infrastructure and general interest in EVs, 2022 is set to be a bumper year for EVs in NSW.
