According to InsideEVs, while Tesla was one of the first brands to unveil a fully electric semi truck in 2017, the Semi has yet to enter production. It should be noted that other companies have already launched competitive versions.
However, we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel as the car company Semi is officially ready for order, five years after it was first exhibited.
To reserve a Semi, you must pay $5,000 up front and then another $15,000 to secure your order. An additional $20,000 is required for every extra Tesla Semi. As per the report of InsideEVs, the first $5,000 is totally refundable, but when you’ve paid the remaining $15,000, you won’t get your money back then even if you cancel your order.
When Is the Launch Date of Semi?
It was reported that the first deliveries are expected to begin in 2023, though no particular date has been set.
But it is worth noting that, as mentioned by CNET, taking people’s money for a reservation and being anything close to being able to fulfill those reservations are two very different things.

Engadget reported that the Semi debuted alongside the second-generation Roadster in 2017. It will still start at $150,000, giving it a feasible option for companies looking for intercity couriers without the normal fuel expenses or environmental impact. With a maximum 500-mile range, quick “Megacharger” top-ups, and a 20-second 0-60MPH time at a loaded weight of 80,000lbs, the vehicle was designed to challenge conventional trucking.
However, the launch, like that of the new Roadster, did not proceed as planned. Tesla has repeatedly postponed the Semi, most notably because of chipset shortages and low manufacturing capacity for the required 4680 battery cells. At this point, the report noted that reservations are more about securing future revenue than about ensuring immediate delivery.

In 2019, the Cybertruck was announced. The electric pickup truck was meant to be in production by now, but the manufacturer postponed it while focusing on increasing Model Y production, said a report by Electrek.
The Cybertruck is set to go into production in 2023, according to Tesla.
Tesla enthusiasts awaiting for the much-anticipated Cybertruck this year may have to hold their excitement a little longer.
However, the car company has opted to stop collecting reservations for the Cybertruck in Europe and Asia, instead focusing on North America, where the vehicle is slated to arrive next year.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk claimed that the Cybertruck reservation campaign was a huge success, with over 250,000 reservations received within a week of the vehicle’s unveiling.
Some sources said that even during the pandemic, some Tesla outlets were getting hundreds of Cybertruck reservations per week, and that Cybertruck pre-orders even helped boost sales. The last time the statistic was updated was in June 2020, when it had increased to over 650,000 Cybertruck reservations.
