A Tesla driver managed to ruin his own birthday after driving 85km over the speed limit while on the way to a ski trip.
The man was on his way to a ski resort to celebrate his 32nd birthday when police pulled him over in Towong, on the Victoria/New South Wales border at 2pm on Wednesday.
Instead of a fun-filled day on the slopes, the Oakleigh man had his car taken away and spent the day being interviewed by traffic cops.

The man was allegeldy driving his Tesla at 185km/hr in a 100km/hr zone.
The vehicle also had two unroadworthy tyres.
The vehicle was impounded and the man is expected to receive speed and defective-vehicle charges.
Police have yet to formally charge the man, but he now faces losing his licence for at least a year and could receive a fine of over $3,500.
The starting price for Tesla cars in Australia is around $60,000, with some models costing closer to $100,000.
Police would not speculate on what had caused the man to be driving so recklessly, but were clearly unwilling to give him a birthday present of their own and ignore his dangerous behaviour.
