DU QUOIN, Ill. — Logan Seavey was in the right place at the right time and won Monday afternoon’s rain-delayed 68thannual Ted Horn 100 at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds.
Seavey was chasing leader C.J. Leary, who had taken the point from Shane Cockrum when Cockrum ran out of fuel 13 laps from the checkered flag in the 100-lap event on the legendary one-mile dirt track, when Leary slowed with seven laps remaining.
Leary’s departure left Seavey the only driver on the lead lap and he guided Robbie Rice’s No. 22 the remaining seven circuits to earn the victory, while Cockrum fought back to finish second.
Cockrum, the top qualifier for the 31-car field, had led 75 laps before running out of fuel.
Kody Swanson overcame his own problems and finished third to strengthen his series point lead, while Patrick Bruns and Casey Buckman, who started 23rd, rounded out the top five.
Swanson leads Seavey by 57 points as the series heads to Eldora Speedway for the 4-Crown Nationals later this month.
Dallas Hewitt flipped on lap five and A.J. Fike flipped over the turn-three wall on lap 57.
