Tata Motors has bagged the largest EV fleet order in India. Tata Motors will deliver 10,000 units of the XPRES T EVs to BluSmart Electric Mobility as a part of this new agreement. This is in addition to the 3,500 electric vehicles that BluSmart had already placed an order for. With such a large order, Tata Motors’s position of dominance in the EV market is expected to be cemented.
Tata Motors has one of the most diverse range of vehicles in the Indian market. Right from small passenger vehicles, to some of the largest commercial vehicles, Tata Motors has almost all segments in the automobile market covered.
It was at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo that Tata Motors first showcased the Tata Tigor EV concept. It looked production-ready and went into production pretty soon. 2019 saw the launch of the Tata TIgor EV. However, there was a catch. The Tigor EV wasn’t available for private buyers but was only targeted at fleet operators. This did seem like an unwise decision at the time.
Now though, in hindsight, it was a brilliant decision as the fleet operators placed pretty large orders for the electric notchback. 2020 saw the launch of the Tata Nexon EV which to this day remains the bestselling electric vehicle in India. Tata Motors then decided to upgrade the Tigor EV and put it up for sale to individual buyers as well.
In 2021, Tata Motors diversified the Tigor lineup into two separate brands. The Tigor EV was designated for private passenger vehicle usage while the XPRES brand was launched exclusively for fleets. It was at this specific time that the XPRES T was launched.
Needless to say, the Tata XPRES T has been a great success with Tata Motors bagging multiple mass orders for the electric notchback. It was only a few weeks ago in April 2022 that Tata Motors signed an MoU with Lithium to deliver 5,000 units of the XPRES T to Lithium Urban Technologies.
BluSmart ELectric Mobility had previously placed an order for 3,500 units. Now in addition to the same, the brand has placed an order for 10,000 units. This is indeed a massive order and will be fulfilled by Tata Motors over the coming months.
Shailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles was quoted as saying, “Tata Motors is taking active steps towards the rapid electrification of mobility, and it is heartening to see renowned fleet aggregators joining the green mobility wave with us. We are delighted to continue our association with BluSmart Electric Mobility as we deploy 10,000 XPRES-T EVs across the country.”
The Tata XPRES T is available in two variants and the biggest difference between these variants is the range on offer. The base variant, with a 16.5kWh battery pack has a claimed range of 165 kilometres while the top-spec variant with a 21.5kWh battery pack boasts a 213 kilometre range. These range figures are ARAI-certified and are in ideal conditions. The real-world range though is significantly lower.
Both models are compatible with fast chargers that most flee depots have already installed. Using the fast charger, 0-80 percent charging is achieved in 90 minutes and 110 minutes respectively. Apart from this, the Tata XPRES T can also be charged through a 15A plug. Dual airbags, ABS & ABD make sure the car is safe for its occupants.
Thoughts On Tata Motors Bagging An Order Of 10,000 Electric Vehicles
The Tata XPRES T or Tigor EV has proven itself time and again. They are reliable, and efficient and help their operators make a lot of profit. The very fact that BluSmart increased its order to such a large extent says a lot about the car.
