Honda’s latest introduction, the new BR-V, is now available in South Africa with prices ranging from R379,900 for the entry-level Trend, up to R459,900 for the top-of-the-range Elegance.
The most noticeable attribute of the new SUV is that it comes with seven seats, something which is uncommon for a vehicle in this price bracket, making the BR-V more comparable to an MPV in terms of utility than many other entry-level SUVs.
For the engine, Honda has opted for a 1.5-litre configuration with a choice of either a six-speed manual or a CVT gearbox, and this gives the SUV a power output of 89kW and 145Nm.
Fuel consumption, meanwhile, is listed at between 6.8l/100km for the manual and 6.3l/100km for the CVT.
Looking to the exterior, the BR-V features a new grill design, roof rails, LED headlights and daytime running lights, and it sports alloy wheels with sizes ranging from 16 to 17 inches, depending on the trim level.
As for the interior, standard equipment consists of a 7-inch infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone manual air conditioning, four speakers, hill assist, a “leather-like” upholstery, and a boot with space for 244 litres of luggage when all the seats are up, which is increased to 691 and 1,164 litres with the third and second-row seats folded, respectively.
Upgrading to the mid-range Comfort model will then add a reverse camera, rear parking sensors, and keyless start and entry to the list of features.
Those who opt for the top-end Elegance will additionally receive a 4.2-inch digital driver display, two more speakers, and a driver assistance package comprising adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, road departure mitigation, and a forward collision warning system.
