The Subaru Impreza 2.5RS was one of the best Subarus sold in America. And it's returning.
SubaruThe original Subaru Impreza 2.5RS was one of the best cars Subaru ever sold in America. I owned one and took it everywhere with me, even to wheel-to-wheel ice races. I still regret selling it. Now, judging by a teaser published by Subaru on Thursday ahead of its new Impreza reveal, the RS trim is making a return.
Subaru posted a short video to its Facebook page Thursday morning showing an up-close shot of an “RS” badge overlaid with an audio clip of some revs. The text accompanying the post reminds viewers to watch the new Impreza reveal happening at the Los Angeles Auto Show later today, at around 12:30 p.m. eastern.
Subaru has yet to release any details on the new Impreza, so there’s no telling what sort of powertrain the new RS-badged Impreza will have. For context, the original packed a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated boxer-four sending power to all four wheels via either a five-speed manual or automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential in the rear. We’re curious to see how much of the original RS’s greatness makes it to the new one.
