The $19,995 starting price makes it the least expensive AWD vehicle offered in Canada.
For 2020, Subaru is updating the Impreza with more active safety driver aids on more trims, along with adding its SI-Drive sport button to more vehicles. Also new for 2020 are new safety systems that won’t help you drive but can still keep you safe and wider availability of the automaker’s connected services. Despite all that, the price stays the same as last year.
The $19,995 starting price makes it the least expensive AWD vehicle offered in Canada, an honour it’s held for quite a few years now. Powering that AWD system, which is standard across the board for the Impreza, is a 2.0L flat-four engine that puts out 152 hp. That’s an average figure for the class, but the car is avaiable with either a five-speed manual or a CVT for those who want to let the vehicle handle the shifting. The SI-Drive system, standard on all CVT-equipped models, adjusts between Sport and Intelligent modes to offer a driving feel that’s a bit more tailore to how you’re planning to drive the car.
All CVT-equipped models also get Subaru’s EyeSight active safety suite as standard, meaning that getting those features starts from $21,995 with the hatch adding $1,000. Previously EyeSight was only offered on the Sport trim or higher. Subaru has added a new rear seat reminder feature on all Imprezas that’s designed to let you know if you’ve forgotten someone (or something) in the back seat. There’s also a new feature that automatically unlocks the doors following a collision. A feature that can make it easier for first responders to help an injured passenger out of the vehicle.
Subaru’s Starlink connected services are added to most models, Subaru says. That system uses a built-in cellular connection to add automatic emergency assistance notifications, improved roadside assistance, and even concierge services.
On the outside, Subaru has given the Impreza a slight facelift. With a new front fascia it says offers a more refined look. Otherwise, the hatchback and sedan bodywork is unchanged.
Inside, the Impreza comes standard with a 6.5-inch touchscreen offering Apple CaPlay and Android Auto support. Sport trim and higher get a larger 8.0-inch screen.
