The StreetScooter successor company B-ON has appointed Jörg Hofmann as President and Chief Operating Officer (COO). Hofmann will be responsible for the development and scaling of the existing vehicle production on a global level.
According to a company statement, Hofmann will oversee all business areas coupled with vehicle manufacturing, including sales, production, logistics, procurement and engineering, in addition to leading B-ON’s operations in Europe and the Americas. The newcomer thus takes over the COO position from co-founder Bruno Lambert, who moves to the new position of chief innovation officer (CIO) at B-ON.
In his new role, Lambert will lead the company’s overall strategy and focus on future product and service development as well as on the company’s Asian business, the statement continues. Both managers are also to share co-president duties in the future.
Former Audi executive Jörg Hofmann most recently served as CEO for LEVC and Wrightbus. While he led LEVC from the beginning of 2019 until mid-2022, the engagement at Wrightbus was of very short duration. Hofmann was hired there in September 2022 and has now – less than half a year later – moved to B-ON.
“Over the past few months, I have thoroughly examined every aspect of B–ON’s business,” says Hofmann himself. “I came away deeply impressed with the team and the absolute gem they acquired last year, in both their vehicle product and advanced software abilities. There is no one else in the commercial vehicle space today who can match their experience or unique capabilities. I couldn’t be more confident and excited for the future of the company.”
In January 2022, B-ON, then still known as Odin Automotive, had taken over the Deutsche Post subsidiary StreetScooter and also the plant in Düren with an annual capacity of 30,000 vehicles. B-ON subsequently entered into a cooperation with Hitachi for the charging infrastructure and energy management. Hitachi Venture, Hitachi’s venture capital company, also became a shareholder in May 2022. This was followed in summer 2022 by an agreement with the US company Creative Bus Sales (CBS) for the distribution of B-ON’s electric utility vehicles in the United States.
