Black-pack special-edition based on Rexton Ultimate set to help boost sales of SsangYong’s large SUV
A new limited-run 2022 SsangYong Rexton Black Edition will join the South Korean brand’s large SUV line-up in August.
Priced from $56,585 drive-away and based on the top-spec Rexton Ultimate, the Black Edition replaces the chrome front grille with a black one and carries a variety of other styling tweaks including redesigned fog lights, black wheels and black roof rails.
To help emphasise its darkened features, the Black Edition will only be offered in Space Black or Pearl White – colours that are normally a $495 option but are included in the price.
The extra bling will set buyers back an extra $1595 over the Ultimate ($54,990 drive-away), which, like the entry-level ELX ($47,990), has been left untouched both in terms of spec and pricing for 2022.
According to SsangYong, 74 per cent of Rexton customers over the past two years have opted for the flagship variant, thereby influencing the decision to launch the Black Edition.
“The Rexton SUV range already offers customers unrivalled levels of luxurious appointments, family-friendly space with flexibility of seven seats and an impressive 3.5-tonne towing capacity,” said SsangYong Australia national marketing manager Stevan Dimitrovski.
The Black Edition’s standard equipment list is a mirror image of the Ultimate’s – save for the black exterior touches – meaning customers score a full Nappa leather interior, heated and cooled power-adjustable front seats, ambient interior lighting, an 8.0-inch infotainment system featuring both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 350-degree camera, automatic LED lights, speed-sensitive steering, powered tailgate and a power sunroof, among other features.
Standard safety features continue to include autonomous emergency braking (AEB), forward collision warning, safety distance warning, lane change collision warning, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic warning and smart high beam.
No changes have been made under the bonnet, meaning power and torque are still rated at 148kW/441Nm courtesy of a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine.
Transmission duties are handled by an eight-speed automatic, operating through a part-time 4×4 system and limited-slip differential.
