Malaysia’s second best-selling pick-up truck, the , appears to have reached the end of its lifecycle for the current generation which was introduced all the way back in 2015. Since its introduction all those years ago, the Mitsubishi pick-up has gone through 5 facelifts with the current one introduced in 2019.
The speculation of the current-gen Triton nearing its end is based on the latest set of spyshots taken in Thailand. Camouflaged units of the Triton were seen in Europe but these might be the first sightings in the Land of Smiles.

Picked up (no pun intended) by Filipino automotive publication AutoIndustriya via an Instagram user, the all-new Triton appears to receive the same LED headlights and a massive front grille as seen in other spyshots of the truck overseas.

Unlike the outgoing Triton, the next generation is said to share a platform with the next-gen . It will be a complete rebadge just like how the is essentially a with a Nissan V-Motion grille.
With both models becoming twins, the next-gen Triton and Navara would be sharing the same powertrains and suspension settings aside from the ladder frame chassis platform. Australian media have also speculated that the 2.4-litre Mitsubishi MIVEC turbodiesel (181 PS/430 Nm) from the current Triton could be carried over into the next generation.
Besides a turbodiesel, Mitsubishi is also looking to offer the next-gen Triton a hybrid powertrain as the Three Diamonds company is embracing electrification. However, the rumoured Triton Hybrid would only arrive as early as the end of 2025.
Since the Triton’s production base is in Thailand, this latest set of spyshots pretty much shows that the upcoming generation’s arrival is imminent. The outgoing Triton is currently offered in Malaysia with 7 variants that are priced below:
- Triton 2.4 Athlete – RM 146,600
- Triton 2.4 Phantom Plus Edition – RM 139,700
- Triton 2.4 AT Premium – RM 126,900
