Trend alert, split headlight design is well and truly here and is becoming a must-have style on many new SUVs and cars.
Split headlights is precisely what it sounds like; the front headlights are housed in two separate units per side rather than just in one. In most cases, the LED daytime running lights live in the top unit while the main headlights will sit in a unit below, either directly or with a sizable gap.
As the world moves towards buying more SUVs and high-riding cars, the split headlight trend looks to continue even more. Here are seven cars that rock a split headlight design which you can buy here on carsales.
Hyundai Kona
First launched in 2017, the Hyundai Kona has always had a unique style, headlined by its split headlight treatment. Kona’s headlight design includes LED Daytime Running Lights on the top bonnet line with its main light cluster lowe down near the front grille.
Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross
Now a signature of Mitsubishi’s Dynamic shield front-end styling, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross wears the flagship styling of split headlights well. The LED Daytime Running Lights sit on the top bonnet line rolling into the grille. While the main headlight cluster sits lower in the front end in a stacked format.
BMW X7
The X7 is one mammoth machine, not only in overall presence but the size of the kidney grilles. A unique yet more subtle design cue comes from the use of a horizontally split headlight design applied to the front end. Up top are LED daytime running lights while below, concealed behind tinted lenses are adaptive matrix LED headlights.
Citroën C4
Always known for its angular yet fluid styling, the front of the new Citroën C4 with a V-shaped light signature: Double-stage headlamps and chrome chevrons stretch across the car’s width. This new design highlights 100% “Citroën LED Vision” technology, with daytime running lights, headlamps with 3 modules and LED fog lights with static corner lighting.
Skoda Kamiq
Back in 2019, Skoda stated that it wanted to differentiate its Kamiq small SUV with a two-part headlight design in a bid to make the car stand out in an increasingly crowded segment. How times have changed. Splitting the headlights and putting the daytime running lights on top was a first for the company back then, but now part of the norm. The LED running lights incorporate dynamic indicators which flash in the direction of intended travel, another first for the brand.
Genesis G70
Genesis has taken the design trend of split headlights, then has split it once more. What has now become a key design language feature, Genesis vehicles including the G70 see not only two lots of headlight units on top of each other, but two types of lighting in each, incorporating LED daytime running lights as well as standard headlights.
Nissan X-Trail
The latest version of the Nissan X-Trail sees its designers take the exterior design signatures of the big V-motion grille and turn it up a notch. The front of the family SUV is framed by striking headlights that appear moulded within the bodywork of the front bumper, with combined daytime running lights and indicators nestled along the shut-line of the bonnet.
