Inclement weather has caused the postponement of the second qualifying night of the Grand Annual Sprint Car Classic.
Australia’s biggest sprint event was scheduled to resume at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon — Jan. 29 — to allow for the completion of the postponed qualifying night races and the feature night program.
Race officials made several attempts to resume the event, but eventually decided to postpone it around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday evening.
“Unfortunately, due to inclement weather and safety concerns surrounding the condition of the racing surface raised by drivers, the night two program of the South West Conveyancing Grand Annual Sprint Car Classic was brought to an end,“ the Premier Speedway Club wrote in a statement. “Racing will now continue on Sunday starting at the earlier time of 3:00 p.m. commencing with the balance of the night two race program, commencing with heat 6, before moving into the night three program.”
“We thank the patrons who attended the venue on night two who stood by us during the inclement weather.”
The program will consist of cars from the first night, which qualified into night three and the cars from night two, which were still competing at the time of the program halting.
Weather forecasts suggest the rain has passed and racing should be able to continue.
