#33: Sean Creech Motorsport, Ligier JS P320, LMP3: Lance Willsey, Joao Barbosa
Sean Creech Motorsport has confirmed they will not compete at this weekend’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season finale at Road Atlanta, due to a family emergency regarding one of their drivers, Lance Willsey.
The team has competed in all of the IMSA WeatherTech races this year featuring the LMP3 class, though will not participate in the 10-hour season finale on Saturday 14 October.
Joao Barbosa has run at all races this year with the #33 Ligier JS P320, as Wilsey took part in five rounds, most recently at the Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis.
Wilsey is unable to contest the race due to a family emergency, Team Principal Sean Creech commented on the situation.
“Obviously we’re disappointed to not do Petit, but Lance’s family is what’s most important.
“2023 is in the rearview mirror now. We’re well underway with our 2024 preparations, with the first test of the LMP2 car at Daytona last week – which went very well.
“We’ll continue testing the car over the next few months so we’re in a good position at Daytona.”
Despite not gaining a class-win so far this year, which marked their jump from the Endurance Cup rounds to the full season, Barbosa and Nico Pino claimed second place at the Sportscar Weekend which took place at Road America.
Furthermore, it was expected the trio would have competed in the upcoming final race for the LMP3 class in the WeatherTech package.
Last Wednesday, Barbosa drove the first laps around the Daytona International Speedway (Road Course) in the team’s LMP2 debut for next year.
They are set to continue testing the Ligier JS P217, which having ran a previous life, was stripped down and rebuilt with new components.
Next year’s IMSA season will commence with the Roar Before the 24 on 19-21 January, and the 61st edition of the 24 Hours of Daytona on 27-28 January.
