Not so long ago, we reported that the Cooper S Clubman was to be put to pasture. Now, Mini has confirmed that 10 Final Edition models are earmarked for South Africa.

Behind this sad goodbye is a story behind the original Mini Clubman, with Roy Haynes, its designer having this to say on its unveiling in 1969: “The impression that only ugly things can be functional has disappeared.” Spanning a production run up until 1981, the original Mini Clubman and its shooting-brake body set the tone for the British automaker at the turn of the century when they were born under the BMW Group.
Rebirthed in 2007, the second generation model continued where the legacy was started all those years ago, only with a retro touch. The third generation from 2015, which we are celebrating here, will however be the final to wear the moniker since Mini will no longer continue the legacy. Thus, the versatile and functional cultural icon of a car will receive a Final Edition, limited to 1 969 units to commemorate the year of its inception.

Available exclusively as the Cooper S Clubman Final Edition, the final production run will be avaiable in one of three colours namely Nanuq White, Enigmatic Black and Melting Silver. Details will wear the Shimmer Cooper colour which is imbued onto components on the exterior including the 18-incha alloy wheels which wear the Final Edition Spoke 2 tone design. Reminders of the models limited providence are placed inside and outside the car, with plaques and decals serving as a literal visual symbol.
Running gear has not changed either, inside the standard Connected Media equipment includes an 8,8-inch touch display in the central instrument, the MINI Online digital service, Remote Services and smartphone integration for using Apple CarPlay and other apps via the vehicle’s own control system.

South Africa will receive only 10 units of the 1 969 Clubman Final Edition models that are being produced, with customer deliveries to commence from the fourth quarter of 2023.
