Earlier, Mahindra offered a locking rear differential on all ‘AX Opt’ and ‘LX’ trims.
According to a media report, the Mahindra Thar 4×4 no longer comes with a mechanically locking rear differential as standard. This feature is now said to be offered as an option on the top-spec LX diesel variant.
Earlier, Mahindra offered a locking rear differential on all ‘AX Opt’ and ‘LX’ trims. Customers can still order their top-spec diesel AT and MT trims, but the petrol Thar is no longer available with this feature.
A mechanically locking rear differential forces both wheels on an axle to rotate at the same speed. This is especially handy when tackling off-road terrains. In the Thar, the rear differential can be locked by pressing a button on the dashboard.
The Mahindra Thar uses a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that makes 130 BHP and 320 Nm. The engine is mated with either a 6-sped manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 4×4 variants also get automatic hub locks and a low-range transfer case.
