Rolls Royce Spectre Hot Weather Testing Underway in South Africa [VIDEO]

Rolls Royce unveiled its first-ever electric vehicle in the form of Spectre and it has been undergoing rigorous testing ever since. The testing phase has brought it to face the harsh heat of South Africa.

Rolls Royce Spectre has been undergoing a hot-weather test in South Africa. Spectre will be the first EV from the iconic luxury car marque ever. To make it capable across any terrain in the world, the testing phase has taken it to some of the harshest weather conditions in the world. This includes extremely hot climatic conditions prevalent in South Africa. This will allow the carmaker to implement necessary modifications to the design or engineering needed to survive and thrive in such conditions.

Rolls Royce Spectre Hot-Weather Test

The video has been shared by HSR Motors on YouTube. It shows the luxury EV being tested on the beaten tracks in South Africa. As per the information in the video, the temperatures could go upto 50 degrees Celsius in summer. This provides excellent conditions to test the vehicle under harsh terrains. If it is able to perform well in these conditions, there would hardly be any place on earth where things could get much worse, at least in terms of heat.

As per the carmaker, it adopts this approach where incremental changes to the design and engineering over a long period of time results in a huge performance enhancement. Such testing will allow the cabin testing and testing of components along with suspension on uneven surfaces even though it is highly unlikely that a Rolls Royce would be driven on such terrain often. Nevertheless, it is the company’s chance to test all these components before rolling out the EV for deliveries. A total of 2.5 million km of testing is planned for the Spectre.

Specs

While all the specs are not announced yet but there are a few details revealed by the luxury carmaker. This includes things like a powertrain that will produce 430 kW (577 hp) and 900 Nm of peak power and torque. This will allow a 0-100 km/h acceleration sprint in just 4.5 secs. The range is said to be around 520 km and there will also be the option of 200 kW DC fast charging. Rolls Royce has planned the deliveries to commence in the last quarter of 2023 although the official prices are not out yet.
