It calls 2018 one of the company's most ambitious years of one-offs and specials.
If your “run of the mill” Rolls-Royce isn’t quite special enough, the company is happy to make one even more special, just for you. And the company’s Bespoke Collective, the branch that handles those requests is on, well, a bit of a roll. It calls 2018 one of the company’s “most ambitious years” of one-offs and specials. And they’ve given us the highlights of what they’ve done last year.
The Whispered Muse is a reinterpretation of Charles Sykes’ original Spirit of Ecstasy drawings. Inside the cabin’s glass photo gallery, there’s a sculpted silk adaptation created by British artist Amy Murray. That flowing form is echoed throughout the cabin, even on the infotainment screen. To top it off, the Spirit on the hood is Rose Gold, a first for the Bespoke Division.
This one flies a little higher. It’s a Dawn that pays tribute to the Czech and Slovak pilots who served in the RAF during the Battle of Britain. That solid grey paint and black coachline are inspired by the livery of their Spitfires. Open the door and the driver sill has the motto of 313 Squadron, “Jeden Jestráb Mnoho Vran Rozhání” (“One hawk chases away many crows”). The passenger side has the 312’s, “Non Multi Sed Multa” (“Not many, but much”). Embroidered on the headrests is the badges of the squadrons, and between the rear seats is an interpretation of the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine that powered the fighter plane.
The Gentleman’s Tourer wears what Rolls calls an “operational space” designed for long-distance touring. The Gallery in the dash is crafted from ruthenium. A metal that is far rarer than boring old gold. Just 20 tonnes are mined a year, compared with 2,500 of gold. The white metal is used to make platinum alloys harder and it doesn’t tarnish except under high temperatures.
This colourful Dawn Black Badge was commissioned for Google VP of Engineering Benjamin Treynor Sloss. You’ll never mistake this for any other Rolls. Not with that yellow and deep blue colour scheme. It’s the palette shared across the exec’s fleet, though this one uses a new yellow called Superflare and “the darkest of navy blues.”
While Superflare is undeniably bright, it doesn’t hold a candle to the Phantom in Fuxia. Delivered to Michael Fux, it is his eleventh Bespoke Rolls (and one of more than 140 cars total). This colour is his and his alone, Rolls says nobody else can use Fux Intense Fuxia Pearl. The interior is matching Fuxia and white leather.
That’s just the highlights of their one-offs. Rolls-Royce Bespoke also built 35 special Silver Ghost Collection cars with a sterling silver Spirit, hammered-copper inserts, and special hallmarks, 70 Adamas Black Badge Collection cars with black diamonds and a carbon fibre Spirit, and the Cullinan Viewing Suite that takes tailgating to an entirely new level of luxury.
