Marque hails ultra-luxury electric super coupe as it plans to make its whole portfolio fully electric by the end of 2030.
Rolls-Royce has unveiled its first fully electric car with the first deliveries due to take place in the final quarter of next year.
The marque describes the Spectre as an ultra-luxury electric super coupe and once in full production, it will have undergone 2.5 million kilometres of testing on proving grounds and real roads around the world.
While the model is still being refined, preliminary data shows it is expected to have a range of 520km and offer 900Nm of torque from its 430kW powertrain. It is anticipated to clock 0-100kph in 4.5 seconds.
Torsten Muller-Otvos, chief executive officer of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, says the vehicle is the start of a “bold new chapter” for the marque as it seeks to make its entire product portfolio fully electric by the end of 2030.
“Spectre possesses all the qualities that have secured the Rolls-Royce legend,” he adds. “This incredible motor car, conceived from the very beginning as our first fully electric model, is silent, powerful and demonstrates how perfectly Rolls-Royce is suited to electrification.”
The Spectre has a split headlight treatment intersected by the widest grille on a Rolls-Royce. The vanes of the Pantheon grille are also smoother in section and a flusher fit, to create the marque’s most aerodynamic car,.
Even its Spirit of Ecstasy figurine has been aero-tuned and undergone 830 combined hours of design modelling and wind tunnel testing.
The car is two metres wide and becomes the first production two-door coupe from Rolls-Royce to be equipped with 23-inch wheels in almost 100 years. It also boast Starlight Doors, which incorporate 4,796 softly illuminated “stars”.
Planar suspension delivers a “magic carpet ride” feel as it can decouple the car’s anti-roll bars allowing each wheel to act independently, preventing the rocking motion that occurs when one side of a vehicle hits an undulation in the road.
While on the inside there is a range of bespoke options, including a new front seat design that has been inspired by British tailoring, with lapel sections that can be rendered in contrasting or matching colours to the main base.
