The electric car needs just 29.93 seconds to complete the 0-249-0 mph sprint.
Rimac Automobili has smashed a staggering 23 records with the all-electric Nevera. The 1,914 horsepower hypercar officially holds the record for the fastest-ever 0-249-0 mph sprint, completed in a mere 29.93 seconds – more than a second quicker than the previous record holder.
That's impressive enough, but the battery-powered Nevera also shattered 23 additional speed records, all verified by two independent parties, RaceLogic and Dewesoft. Rimac says these achievements took place at the Testing Papenburg (ATP) facility in Germany, where the car performed flawlessly and showed no signs of reliability issues or performance losses.
The Nevera exceeded all expectations and even bested its claimed 0 – 60 mph time of 1.85 seconds. The latest test runs achieved a 0 – 60 mph sprint time of 1.74 seconds, which makes the Rimac even faster than the Pininfarina Battista, which has held the record since November.
Founder and CEO of Rimac Automobili, Mate Rimac, couldn't be prouder of the Nevera. “Growing up, I always looked at the cars that made history, moving the bar for performance, in awe of the kind of revolutionary technology they brought to the road. That is what is driving me from day one – to develop new technology that redefines what is possible,” he said.
“Today, I am proud to say that the car we've created can get to 400km/h and back to 0 in less time than it took the McLaren F1 to accelerate up to 350km/h. And not only that, but it can do it again and again, breaking every other performance record in the process. If you had a Nevera and access to a track, you could do it too,” added Rimac.
Rimac notes that all acceleration records were conducted with a one-foot rollout. Rather impressively, the record-breaking Nevera achieved all 23 accolades on non-prepped asphalt with road-legal Michelin Cup 2 R tires.
The vehicle in question wore a rather special livery that pays tribute to Rimac's personal BMW e-M3, the very car that inspired the CEO to establish his business. The electric BMW stunned people when it set numerous speed records back then. Now, 12 years later, Rimac is breaking records with his very own hypercar.
To put into perspective just how quick the 29.93-second time is, the Bugatti Chiron needs 41.96 seconds to achieve the same feat. The Koenigsegg Regera currently occupies second place with 31.49 seconds. Let's not forget the Rimac Nevera is also the world's fastest electric vehicle, with an official top speed of 258 mph.
This is one EV you simply can't accuse of being boring. The other records are equally mind-boggling and highlight the Nevera's capabilities.
The Nevera hits 124 mph in 4.42 seconds, which is less time than a BMW M340i needs to get to 60 mph. Overtaking at high speed in the Rimac should be a cinch, with 62 – 124 mph dispatched in a mesmerizing 2.59 seconds. These numbers are so impressive and remarkable that it's hard to wrap one's head around them. It's incredible that the electric vehicle (as a concept) has developed to this point. We can't wait to see what Rimac will introduce in the near future, and we can't imagine a quicker vehicle – but Rimac has promised this.
Perhaps future Rimac vehicles will boast a higher top speed and a more usable range. Currently, the Nevera is rated at 300 miles. We might even see more compact, energy-dense batteries that can deliver the same performance while reducing weight.
