Review: Suzuki GSX-S750 – Stand Out from the Rest

When one mentions “Japanese middleweight naked bike” in Malaysia, the first couple of bikes to pop-up in our minds are probably the Kawasaki Z800 or the Yamaha MT-09, as there are just so many of them out there. But what if you want something that is just as good, priced more competitively, and stands out a little? Look no further than the bike you’re looking at now – the Suzuki GSX-S750.

Overview of the Suzuki GSX-S750

Launched in Malaysia in August, the 2021 Suzuki GSX-S750 is priced at RM40,989 and comes with a two-year/20,000 km warranty.

Powering the GSX-S750 here is the same 749 cc, inline-four unit that is carried over from the 2005 GSX-R750, producing 114 PS at 10,500 rpm and 81 Nm of torque.

Complementing the engine is a six-speed constant mesh gearbox, 16-litre fuel tank, the Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve (SDTV) system, a 3-step traction control system, ABS, Throttle-body Integrated Idle Speed Control (TI-ISC) system with Low RPM Assist, Suzuki Easy-Start system, and an Engine Control Module (ECM).

Weighing 213 kg, the GSX-S750 also comes with KYB Inverted Front Forks, a Variant cross-section swingarm, Nissin radial mounted four-piston opposed front brake calipers, petal-type front and rear brake discs, sporty lightweight wheels, and Full LCD instrumentation.

Design wise, highlights include a chiseled fuel tank, a vented front fender, light rear fender, molded mirrors, and angular tail section with integrated LED taillight, clear turn signals, and clean layout of all wiring and hoses.

And then we have the seat that is shaped for sport riding, which promises to help make it easier to firmly plant one’s feet on ground, and the ergonomically positioned handlebars and footpegs.

Pros

First and foremost, those who designed this bike deserve a pat on the back as it is arguably the best looking bike in its segment at the moment.

Looking super sharp and radical, the GSX-S750 looks stunning from any angle you look at it, and just demands the attention of everyone around it. Do the ladies turn at you when you arrive? Definitely bro.

Complementing the stunning design of the bike is the sexy noise it makes the moment you start it and bring it to life. Regardless of whether it is idling, when it is being revved, when it is accelerating, decelerating, or just cruising, the engine note is just pure music to the ears, even with the stock exhausts.

Although the folks at Suzuki say that the seats are made for sport riding, they are super comfortable, and provide good support at all time, which means that this is a bike which you can sit on for hours before you start feeling restless, even if you are a heavyweight.

And then we have the engine which has been around for more than a decade. On top of being reliable and durable, the GSX-S750’s engine here is super smooth. 114 PS and 81 Nm of torque may not sound impressive on paper but believe us when we say that this bike is a monster that begs to be thrashed hard.

Review: Suzuki GSX-S750 – Stand Out from the Rest

Despite its bulky appearance, the GSX-S750 is a very agile and sharp bike that negotiates corners effortlessly without you having to struggle to make it lean further. It was just a case of point and shoot.

Cons

As comfortable, smooth, and agile as it is, the Suzuki GSX-S750 is still a naked bike, meaning that there is no wind protection of any sorts.

Review: Suzuki GSX-S750 – Stand Out from the Rest

So, if long distance interstate travel is your type of thing, the GSX-S750 may not be the right bike for you, unless you fit an aftermarket windscreen to make things more aerodynamic. In town and around twisty bits however, this bike is an absolute joy to ride.

Review: Suzuki GSX-S750 – Stand Out from the Rest

There are no riding modes, no quick-shifting and whatnot, and only the three-mode traction control for you to choose from depending on how much you want the bike to keep things in control. And then we have the pillion seat that is suitable only for small sized individuals.

Besides these petty things, we have absolutely no complains about the Suzuki GSX-S750.

Verdict on the Suzuki GSX-S750

Overall, the Suzuki GSX-S750 is an extremely capable middleweight naked bike that is super fun to be ridden in urban surroundings and also around twisty bits.

Review: Suzuki GSX-S750 – Stand Out from the Rest

The price tag of RM40,989 makes it cheaper than the Kawasaki Z800 (RM43,777), the Yamaha MT-09 (RM48,920), and even the Honda CB650F that asks for RM42,449.

Despite being more affordable than its closest competitors, the GSX-S750 is in no way inferior to any of its rivals, as it is arguably the best looking model in its segment, and comes with a silk smooth yet reliable engine with a proven track record.

Review: Suzuki GSX-S750 – Stand Out from the Rest

So, if you’re looking for a bike that is powerful, reliable, fun to ride, sexy, yet competitively priced, the GSX-S750 may tickle you at the right spots.
