Earlier this week, Renault E-Tech arrived in South Africa. Here is what is on the cards with the Captur Hybrid and Arkana Hybrid.

The automotive sector is experiencing a massive drive towards innovation and electrification and Renault has expanded its range to include hybrid and rechargeable hybrid engines, making electric mobility more accessible for its customers. Enter Renault E-Tech, which serves at the forefront of this charge for the French brand. Earlier this week, the automaker presented the Captur Hybrid and the Arkana Hybrid to motoring media in South Africa.
Renault has applied this expertise to create E-Tech powertrains, both hybrid and rechargeable hybrid, for popular models like Clio, Captur, and Megane. This technology comes as a result of Renault DP World F1 Team development in 2014 and has greatly influenced these models, resulting in a combination of a combustion engine with two electric motors, delivering a 100% electric start-up.

Renault’s Arkana & Captur Hybrid E-Tech models combine reduced fuel consumption with improved driving pleasure. These vehicles feature a 107 kW E-Tech Hybrid engine, delivering both efficiency and reduced emissions. The system is comprised of a 70 KW 1,6-litre petrol engine and two electric motors – a 36 kW e-engine and a 15 kW HSG (High-Voltage Starter Generator). All motors can operate independently or in unison and Renault claims they can achieve fuel consumption gains of up to 40% compared to internal combustion engines, reducing running costs. Regenerative braking, coupled with efficient battery recharge, results in this consumption reduction as well as the ability to drive in 100% electric mode in suburban areas is a key feature, contributing to fuel efficiency.
In terms of Renault E-Tech in South Africa, the French automaker has demonstrated the abilities of their efficient models with the Arkana Hybrid and Captur Hybrid. The Arkana boasts sporty SUV styling, combining robustness and elegance. Its interior features advanced technology, including digital screens and connectivity options.

The Captur Hybrid features a distinctive exterior design with gold accents from its standard counterpart while its interior showcases a smart cockpit with a multimedia touchscreen and customizable digital instrumentation. Despite the battery, the Captur maintains ample boot space, sliding rear seats, and versatility.
