And hundreds of Jeep Compass vehicles called back over a more trivial issue
A total of 1624 Mercedes-Benz G-Class vehicles (G 63 and G 400) built between 2018 and 2022 have been recalled due to a manufacturing defect that could lead to electrical issues.
The German car-maker says the front axle wiring harness could come into contact with the oil-cooler in the latest Mercedes-AMG G 63 luxury off-roader and the more rugged Mercedes-Benz G 400.
As a result, the wiring harness may chafe and become damaged over time, impairing the operation of important safety functions such as the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic stability program (ESP).

Despite remaining unavailable to order in Australia due to overwhelming demand, the G 63 copped a $50,000-plus price hike last year and now costs a cool $365,900 plus on-road costs – almost $120K more than its original sub-$250K launch price in 2018.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van has also been recalled this week, with just two examples affected by the nationwide recall.
Mercedes-Benz says a production defect could cause the wiring harness in vehicles with electrically adjustable rotating seats may become damaged over time due to operation of the seat adjustment.
“This could also impair the deployment of the side airbag installed in the seat,” says Benz.

Meantime, more than 400 examples of the Jeep Compass small SUV have been recalled due to the potential fitment of incorrect towing capacity labels.
A total of 443 units are affected by the national safety recall, which covers all variants of the latest Compass built between 2017 and 2023.
According to the US off-road SUV brand, the towing capacity labels found on the driver’s side door and tow bar do not match the approved maximum capacities listed in the owner’s manual.

“If the driver attempts to tow a load higher than the approved maximum, this could result in a serious accident to the vehicle occupants or other road users that can lead to severe injury or death,” said Jeep in its recall notice.
For reference, the recommended towing capacity for affected versions of the Jeep Compass ranges between 450kg (unbraked) and 1000-1500kg (braked).
Jeep says affected owners should contact their nearest dealership to have the correct labels affixed, free of charge.
