Land Rover South Africa has revealed fresh details on upcoming hybrid powertrains for the new Range Rover.
The Range Rover first launched in August last year with a total of three different engines – the D350, P510e, and P530.
Now, the luxury carmaker is upping its game with the addition of the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) P460e, while also adding new hybrid technology to existing units in the range.
The updated Range Rover now starts at R3,092,600, and customers can place an order on the company’s car configurator.
What’s new
The biggest inclusion to the line-up is the new P460e, which is expected to slot in below the P510e as the former has an output of 338kW compared to the latter’s 375kW.
This is achieved through the use of a new 160kW electric motor, combined with the brand’s 3.0-litre turbocharged Ingenium petrol engine.
The benefit of this improved assistance is that the SUV’s 0-100km/h acceleration time has been cut by 0.2 seconds in pure-electric mode, and its all-electric range has been extended from 113km to 121km.
Charging the battery, meanwhile, is expected to take roughly five hours when using a standard 7kW DC outlet, or 30-40 minutes with a 50kW rapid charger.
The automaker has not yet provided the P460e’s official fuel consumption, but as a reference, the P510e has a claimed figure of just 1.6l/100km.
Beyond the new PHEV model, Land Rover has also introduced mild-hybrid technology to its flagship V8 P530, meaning that an electrified option is available on the long-wheelbase SV trim for the first time.
The SV is also receiving an improved version of the eight-cylinder petrol engine, raising its maximum potential to an impressive 452kW and 750Nm.
Additional features
If you somehow thought the Range Rover left room for improvement, you’ll be pleased to know that the upcoming models will ship with even more features.
For starters, you can expect the brand’s latest generation Pivi Pro infotainment system, courtesy of a 13.1-inch floating media screen, which has been made easier to navigate by adding a new sidebar with sliding controls and haptic feedback.
Another new feature is a Country Road Assist system, which maximizes user comfort by combining the adaptive off-road cruise control with an intelligent navigation system to adjust speed in response to road conditions.
The SUV is also borrowing a feature introduced on the recently launched Range Rover Sport, namely its Dynamic Response Pro system, which reduces body lean during intense cornering through the use of electric roll technology and actuators capable of delivering up to 1,400Nm to each axle.
Finally, the manufacturer is offering a new SV Bespoke commission service on its SV and Autobiography models, letting customers tailor their vehicles with up to 230 exterior colours and 391 cabin materials.
For that premium finish, buyers can also add 24ct gold to the bonnet and tailgate scripts.
