Today's Warlock is based on the Ram 1500 Classic.
Ram is bringing back another classic nameplate, but this is one you might not quite remember. They’re trying to add a little bit of magic to the lineup with the new Ram 1500 Classic Warlock.
The original Warlock was available from 1976 to 1979. It was one of Dodge’s “adult toys” lineup, and yes that’s actually what they called them back then. A different time, and all that. It was launched alongside the Li’l Red Express, and the red truck stole most of the glory. The Warlock came in black, and was loaded with custom features like special wheels, bucket seats, and gold pinstripes. Unlike the Red Express, it could be had with any of six engines.
Today’s Warlock is based on the Ram 1500 Classic. Classic, in this case, means that it’s based on the last-gen Ram 1500, not the latest model.
While it’s based on the Ram Classic’s SLT-grade, it gets some stuff from elsewhere in the lineup. Like the big and bold Rebel grill that trades a cross-hair for some massive RAM lettering. There’s also an optional Sport hood that adds a pair of air intakes.
In the spirit of the original, the Warlock gets new wheels. 20-inch alloys in semi-gloss black. While that original truck got more shiny bits, on the new one the front and rear bumpers are powder coated to have the opposite effect.
That’s not all, though. There are some more appearance changes. Like LED fog lamps. And projector headlights with dark bezels, plus LED taillights. Covering the big wheels are black fender flares, and the truck has been lifted 2.5 cm from the standard Ram 1500.
Inside, the Warlock will get diesel grey cloth seating as well as rear park assist. It will have the 1500 Classic’s Luxury Group option pack that adds a leather steering wheel, 7.0-inch instrument cluster display, power fold mirrors and LED lights for the bed. Buyers can option up the truck with an 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system with nav as well as heated bench or bucket seats.
This Warlock will be available as a Quad Cab or Crew Cab with four-wheel drive. It starts at $51,715 with the 305 hp 3.6L Pentastar V6, or add the 395 hp 5.7L Hemi V8 for another $1,900. The 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Warlock goes on sale at the end of this quarter.
