AlphaTauri, DeVries, SaudiGP

Nyck de Vries (NLD) AlphaTauri AT04. Formula 1 World Championship, Rd 2, Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Friday 17th March 2023. Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

AlphaTauri driver Nyck de Vries was unable to participate in final practice for Formula 1’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix due to a power unit setback.

AlphaTauri detected an issue ahead of the one-hour session and as a consequence the team has been forced into a power unit change.

It leaves Yuki Tsunoda as AlphaTauri’s sole participant in the sesson.

Full-time 2023 rookie de Vries has never before raced at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit and finished 17th at the end of Friday’s second session

He finished the opening round of the season in Bahrain in 14th place.

The setback for de Vries and AlphaTauri comes a day after boss Franz Tost launched a broadside criticising his engineers over the performance of the AT04.
