There will be six and seven-seater variants
After much anticipation, the Proton X90 was finally unveiled today at an exclusive preview session where a lot of juicy details were revealed, so let’s jump straight into it without wasting any time.
Competing with models like the Mazda CX-8, Hyundai Santa Fe, as well as the Kia Sorento, the Proton X90 is the company’s first D-segment SUV and also the brand’s first ever hybrid model.
There will be four variants, namely:
- Proton X90 Standard
- Proton X90 Executive
- Proton X90 Premium
- Proton X90 Flagship
All variants will be powered by the same 1.5L Mild Hybrid powertrain which comprises the 1.5-litre TGDi turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine and a 48-volt electric motor which brings the total output to 190 PS and 300 Nm. Paired with the engine is a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox which sends all the power exclusively to the front wheels.
The powertrain package will also comprise a belt-starter generator (BSG), a DC-DC converter, a lithium-Ion battery pack, a battery management system, recuperation braking system and hybrid module control system.
From what we can see, exterior highlights include 18- and 19-inch wheels depending on the variant, full LED headlights with LED DRLS and sequential signal lights, a redesigned Ethereal Bow front grille with a “Songket” diamond design, a panoramic sunroof, and roof rails.
Moving into the cabin, the seven-seater version will come with 2-3-2 arrangement while the six-seater variants will come with 2-2-2 configuration with captain seats in the second row. We were told that the Standard variant will come with Fabric seats, as the higher-spec variants will come with leatherette seats and upholstery.
There will not be Apple CarPlay or Android Auto as the X90 will come with Proton’s own infotainment system which is also compatible with all mobile devices regardless of the brand and model. This system will see a 12.3-inch touch screen display taking centre stage, complemented by a 10-inch fully digital speedometer.
From what we saw, there are air vents, cupholders, and charging ports at every row. To be more specific, there are six USB (Type A and Type C) chargers and a wireless charging dock in the X90.
Where safety and driver assistance features are concerned, the list is quite extensive. We have front and rear collision warnings and prevention, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go function, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, parking sensors all around, a 360-degree panoramic view monitor, a reverse camera, as well as Traffic Sign Information.
As long as the list of features are, most of them will only be available in the higher-spec variants as always.
That being said, Proton is yet to reveal when the model will be open for booking, when it will be launched and most importantly, what the price is going to be and what the warranty is going to be like.
