Spanish performance brand announces reduced Leon prices to offer three hot hatch powertrains for the same money
Cupra Australia has adjusted the local pricing of its 2023 Cupra Leon hot hatch range in line with the just-launched Born EV, creating price parity between the combustion, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric drivetrains.
The popular new Spanish performance brand have shaved $1500 off the asking price of the flagship Leon VZx, meaning the 221kW/400Nm hot hatch now starts from $59,990 plus on-road costs – exactly the same as the Born electric hot hatch.
Meantime, the plug-in hybrid VZe has had $500 knocked off its list price and now starts from the same sub-$60,000 figure as its internal combustion and battery-electric stablemates.

Cupra Australia chief Ben Wilks says that’s a unique proposition both within the segment and the wider auto industry.
“We have strategically negotiated even sharper pricing for our Leon hot hatchback, because we have seen greater opportunities emerge in that segment as other well-known names depart,” he said.
“To secure a 221kW high-performance hatch for under $60,000 before on-road costs in 2023 is a real achievement, as is delivering a unique-in-segment plug-in hybrid with up to 67km of electric-only range.”

A cool $1000 has also been scraped off the top of the mid-range Leon VZ (now $51,990 plus ORCs), while the entry-level and soon-to-arrive Leon V nabs a $500 price reduction ($43,490 plus ORCs).
All of these price adjustments are effective immediately and will be applied to outstanding customer orders, meaning those who haven’t taken delivery of their new vehicle yet won’t pay as much as first thought.

“We have negotiated this at a time when price rises are affecting the whole industry including our SUV range, owing to inflation supplier cost and transport increases,” Wilks said.
The only other model being subject to a price decrease is the entry-level Formentor V crossover, which is now $700 more affordable at $49,990 plus ORCs, whereas the rest of the Formentor range has gone up between $1200-$1500 depending on the variant.
Cupra has confirmed that all existing Formentor VZe and VZx orders are price-protected at the pre-increase figures, with the bigger Cupra Ateca also going up by $760 to now start from $61,750 plus ORCs.
