Pos Malaysia Berhad has set up charging stations for electric vehicles for public use at selected post office locations around the country. This service is a partnership with Yinson Greentech (YGT), the country’s largest EV charging network and charge point operator.

The ChargEV charging stations are available daily from 7 AM to 11 PM at 6 Pos Malaysia Post Offices throughout the country i.e. in Shah Alam, Ipoh, Melaka, Seremban, Alor Setar and Johor Bahru. Each outlet has 1 DC charger with 2 CCS2-type nozzles for fast charging with 40 kW of power. Charging an EV up to 80% SoC (state of charge) will take anywhere between 60 and 90 minutes, depending on the electric vehicle model. The chargEV chargers are also designed to provide Pos Malaysia EV users with an optimal charging experience, delivering efficient and reliable charging performance.

The installation of these EV chargers is an initiative by Pos Malaysia as one of its commitments to advancing sustainable mobility solutions and expanding access to sustainable energy sources. These chargers will be installed in phases and there are plans to expand to additional Post Offices thus ensuring greater accessibility for EV owners. This is also supposed to help support the expected growth in electric vehicle ownership in the country.

Concurrently, Pos Malaysia also recently deployed over 40 e-Bikes to deliver mail and parcels around the Klang Valley. By the end of 2023, Pos Malaysia aims to have a combination of 200 e-Bikes and 140 e-Vans across Peninsular Malaysia in its effort to reach net-zero emissions.

“This partnership marks a big step in our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship. As Malaysia’s postal and courier provider, we embrace the responsibility to forge a path towards a more sustainable future and we recognise the significance of integrating sustainability into every facet of our operations, ensuring that our legacy endures for generations to come,” said Pos Malaysia Berhad’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Charles Brewer.

“We are thrilled to offer sustainable mobility solutions to further delight our customers. By collaborating with an esteemed partner like Yinson, we can drive positive change in the realm of sustainable transportation and reduce range anxiety for EV users as we make EV charging stations available at our POs. This demonstrates our unwavering commitment to lowering carbon emissions and advancing a greener future for Malaysia, and it perfectly complements our larger sustainability initiatives and net-zero goals,” he added.

Mr Eirik Barclay, Chief Executive Officer of YGT commented, “Building on our aspirations to help businesses transition towards sustainability, we are pleased to have partnered with Pos Malaysia in rolling out our chargEV stations across these selected locations. This not only grows our comprehensive charging networks offering EV users with a convenient and seamless experience as they go about their daily lives but also benefit Pos Malaysia by lowering their carbon footprint thereby taking the first step in playing a part in accelerating the net zero future.”

Further, this initiative aims to encourage EV users to explore Pos Malaysia’s diverse range of offerings while charging their vehicles at PO outlets. Leveraging on its extensive network of over 600 locations and millions of square feet of retail and outdoor space, Pos Malaysia has partnered with brands such as Cafe Mesra, ZUS Coffee, Photobook to introduce innovative solutions to enhance customer experience through special promotions tailored for EV drivers who charge their EV at selected outlets.

Pos Malaysia is a participating company of UN Global Compact (UNGC) and a member of the International Post Corporation (IPC) Sustainability Measurement and Management System (SMMS) programme, and it actively contributes to managing sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint of the post and parcel industry. Pos Malaysia also aims to continue committing to its sustainability goals on multiple fronts, including its commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
