Porsche will showcase its new and improved Panamera saloon at this year’s Beijing Motor Show, which is set to get underway in less than two weeks’ time.
The Panamera wasn’t exactly the prettiest thing when it first appeared in 2010. It was an awkward looking thing with a silhouette of an overweight 911. But the car was vastly improved with the arrival of the second-generation car in 2017, and the 2021 facelift pretties-up the luxo-saloon even further.
So what’s new on the 2021 Panamera? Well, the visual tweaks are subtle, but the big difference is that the Panamera now gets the Sport Design front end, which was previously available as an optional extra, as standard. The LED tail light cluster has been slightly tweaked, too, and there are new wheel options to choose from.
As is often the case with facelifted cars, the big changes come under the bonnet. The new Panamera line-up consists of the new 4S E-Hybrid, which is powered by a 435bhp 2.9-litre twin-turbo that’s connected to a 138bhp electric motor. It’ll do 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds and is capable of driving on battery power alone for up to 33 miles.
The rest of the range gets a bit more power, too. There’s now a Turbo S model with 621bhp and 820Nm of torque, which is 79bhp and 50Nm more than the old non-S Turbo. It’ll dispatch a 0-62 sprint in 3.2 seconds and go all the way on to a top speed of 198mph. Further down the line-up, the GTS gets a 20bhp boost to 473bhp, while the base Panamera and Panamera 4 are exactly the same as their respective predecessors.
We’ll see the cars in the metal in Beijing, which gets underway on 26th September. But if you’re desperate to pick one up now, orders are open with prices starting at £69,860.
