The Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid combines a 4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine with a 130kW electric motor to produce up to 729bhp figure and 700lb ft of torque, making it the most powerful version of the German company’s range-topping SUV yet. Sent through all four wheels for maximum traction, that’s enough to push this big, hefty car to 62mph in just 3.7 seconds from rest, and on to a top speed of 183mph.
Up to 51 miles of electric driving in the city
A 25.9kWh lithium-ion battery pack supplies energy to the powerful electric motor and when fully charged gives the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid an electric-only range of up to 51 miles around town according to Porsche. The 11kW AC charging system means that the battery can be topped up in under two-and-a-half hours at a suitable charger.
To help keep all of that power under control, the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid gets standard air suspension with new two-chamber, two-valve technology. The suspension’s computer control can alter the speed at which it responds to bumps, and how fast it bounces back down again, in real time. That, says Porsche, gives the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid genuinely different driving styles depending on whether Comfort or Sport Plus settings are selected.
As standard, the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid also gets Porsche Torque Vectoring — which actively sends power to the wheels that can best manage it — and on the options list there’s rear-wheel steering and the fully-active Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) suspension.
SUV and Coupé body styles
The Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid model is available in both the regular SUV version and the sleeker Cayenne Coupé body. Both get unique styling at the front, reserved only for Turbo models, with big air intakes and detailing finished in glossy black. There are also red brake calipers and twin exhaust pipes finished in brushed stainless steel, while Matrix LED headlights are also standard.
Inside, there are aluminium inlays for the dashboard and a high-tech ‘Race-Tex’ roof liner. The Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid features a heated, three-spoke ‘GT’ steering wheel which features a built-in rotary switch for selecting the required driving mode. Buyers can choose from 18-way electric adjustable leather sports seats or 14-way electric adjustable leather ‘comfort’ seats.
The Turbo E-Hybrid’s cabin gets the same updates that the rest of the Cayenne range recently received, including a new digital instrument panel, new infotainment screen and an optional third screen, for the front-seat passenger.
Even faster GT package
Buyers can upgrade the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid with a GT package. In this form, the suspension sits 10mm lower and gets bespoke parts. There are also wider front wheels for sharper steering response, and carbon-composite brakes. GT versions are marked out by black wheelarch extensions, carbon-fibre end-plates for the rear roof spoiler, a titanium exhaust system with centre exhaust tips and carbon fibre for both the rear diffuser and the roof. The GT version is even faster than the standard Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid — 0-62mph comes up in 3.6 seconds and the top speed rises to 189mph.
The standard SUV-bodied version of the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid is available to order now in the UK, priced from £130,200, while the Coupé model is £132,600. The GT package will be an extra £23,800. All owners will be given the chance to attend a driver training day at the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone.
