Polestar Australia has already taken orders for its flagship Polestar 6 all-electric convertible sports car, even before final production specifications, pricing and arrival timing has been locked in.
CarsGuide understands a handful of buyers have already put down a deposit on the Tesla Roadster rival, which has been previewed in concept form by the 02 show car revealed earlier this year.
What differentiates the Polestar 6 from its siblings however, will be a bespoke platform designed from the ground-up for the Volvo all-electric offshoot brand.
The concept car features 800-volt architecture, enabling ultra-fast charging, while the production version is also tipped incorporate the much-vaulted ‘P10’ powertrain.
This P10 set-up can produce up to 650kW/900Nm in its top-spec dual-motor, all-wheel-drive form, while also utilising a dual-speed transmission to maximise acceleration potential.
Final production figures are still to be confirmed, but Polestar is targeting a lightning-quick zero-to-100km/h acceleration time of 3.2 seconds for the powertrain, as well as a top-speed of 250km/h.
What this translates to in the Polestar 6 however, is still to be determined.
The all-electric convertible features seating for two, while the concept also sports a digital instrument cluster, portrait-style multimedia screen and Polestar’s clean, minimalist design cues.
As for timing of the new model? The electric roadster won’t got into production until 2026 as Poelstar gears up to launch the 3, 4 and 5 in the coming years to join the already-on-sale 2.
And if the Polestar 6 follows a similar timeline to the 2 and 3, the new model might not land Down Under until late 2026 or even 2027.
But potential buyers will get a taste a lot earlier than that, as the Polestar 6-previewing concept will be arriving in Australia later this month to go on tour around the country.
The Swedish all-electric brand is keen to spruik its sustainability credentials with the concept, with ‘Polestar Talks’ events being launched in conjunction with the model to talk about Polestars plans to discuss the “need for change through design, innovation, and better business practices”.
“The Polestar Talks events will give attendees the opportunity to hear about the incredible work some of the brightest minds in the sustainability space are doing, and their perspective on the biggest challenges we are facing in Australia,” Polestar Australia boss Samantha Johnson said in the release.
“Polestar electric roadster concept perfectly captures the spirit of that mission, showcasing our rapid transition toward producing a truly climate-neutral car, while demonstrating that, when it comes to sports cars, the premium choice, the fun choice, and the sustainable choice can be one and the same.”
