Famed performance automaker Porsche is celebrating its 75th anniversary with a re-imagination of the classic 356 Roadster No. 1.
How? By going up a digit: meet the Porsche Vision 357 concept.
Style Porsche V.P. Michael Mauer says that the 357 is “an attempt to combine the past, present, and future with coherency, featuring proportions that are reminiscent of its historical archetype and details that visualize the outlook for the future.”
The Vision 357 is based on the 2023 Porsche Cayman GT4 RS. Changes see lower components removed behind the wheels for better ventilation, sills made from sustainable natural-fibre-reinforced plastic, and the frunk lid is a single piece with a quick-release mechanism. The 493-horsepower, 4.0-litre flat-six remains, spinning wheels that blend design elements from the 356 A and -B.

There are several references to the 356 and its racing roots, including blacked-out A-pillars to make the windshield and side windows appear as a single visual opening that mimics a helmet visor. Round headlights and the rear grille are familiar elements from the 356, and even the grayscale paint brings us back to the brand’s 1950s simplicity.
Don’t get too excited though: there’s no expectation that this concept will make it to production. You only get to celebrate 75 once, so for the Porsche optimists out there, best to appreciate this as a recognition of how far the brand has come.
