The EV start-up is now said to be working on the R2, which is a much lighter & smaller crossover.
Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe has made a strong statement about purchasing an IC-engine powered car in a recent interview. The EV company CEO suggested that people ignoring the progress made in the EV space and buying ICE cars will soon regret their decision.
“I think the reality of buying a combustion-powered vehicle, is sort of like building a horse barn in 1910. Imagine buying a Chevy Suburban in 2030, what are you going to do with that in 10 years?” Scaringe said, “It’s just weird. Gas stations will be slowly disappearing,” he added.
In the interview, he also mentioned, “If you’d told me just a few years ago that Europe would be committing to 100% of new vehicles being electric, that California would be making that commitment in the same way, that the United States, through EPA regulations, is going to be 60% EV of new sales by 2030, I don’t think I would have believed it.”
Rivian currently offers the R1T pick-up and R1S SUV. The company is said to have sold over 42,000 units since 2021. The EV start-up is now said to be working on the R2, which is a much lighter & smaller crossover.
