Only 50 units will be made to celebrate the M brand’s 50th anniversary
BMW took the wraps off what is arguably its most extreme road-legal model in recent times – the BMW 3.0 CSL.
As you may have guessed, it carries the same name as the iconic E9 Coupe which took part in the European Touring Car Championship back in the 1970s to pay hommage to the “Batmobile” which was quite legendary back in the days.
As an independent model from BMW M GmbH and despite the limited number of units, the BMW 3.0 CSL has undergone a complete series development process.
Design wise, the BMW 3.0 CSL follows in the footsteps of its historic ancestor. Distinctive air deflection elements, powerfully shaped wheel arches, a striking rear spoiler and numerous other details are unmistakably based on the design of the legendary coupe from the 1970s.
Up front, we have the distinctive BMW kidney grille with a lattice-shaped insert in a diamond structure.
Its upright position relates to the front design of its historic ancestor. Like the side window surrounds, the kidney frame is finished in satin aluminium – a design feature that emphasises the special status of the BMW 3.0 CSL.
the M stripes, known in technical jargon as livery, are applied largely by hand, involving an extremely high level of time and effort. A total of 22 individual parts are painted in a process specially designed for the BMW 3.0 CSL.
Inside, we have a generous dose of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic parts and alcantara upholstery, complemented by a pair of M carbon full bucket seats, M seat belts, and a white gear knob with “50” lettering on it.
Power comes courtesy of an ehnhanced version of the M4 CSL’s 3.0 litre turbocharged engine producing 560 PS and 550 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
That being said, only 50 units of the 2023 BMW 3.0 CSL will be produced, with prices expected to start at around 330,000 euros which is about RM3 million.
