Unfortunately, we don’t think the cheapest trim levels are worth buying. For the Base and T trims, the Macan starts at $58,950 and $64,550, respectively. Although the higher trims are much more expensive, they make it worth your while. In addition, the cheaper Macan variants are similarly priced to fully-loaded midsize SUVs from other brands, so why buy a base model when you could have the best? Additionally, the S and GTS trims come with upgraded engines, which are a huge step up from the base models.

First, Edmunds recommends buying the Macan S for a few reasons. “We think the slightly more expensive but significantly more powerful Macan S delivers the best combination of performance, style, and personalization while remaining a good value relative to its larger Cayenne sibling,” the expert said. Every S trim is the cheapest Macan to use a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 producing 375 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The standard engine is a turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder, good for 261 horsepower and 295 lb-ft.

Alternatively, experts from Car and Driver agree the 2023 Porsche Macan S is the midsize SUV to buy. Like Edmunds, the publication enjoys the more powerful V6 much more than the four-cylinder option. In addition, C/D loves standard features like a 10.9-inch touchscreen, a 10-speaker audio system, and LED headlights. However, it also recommends opting for the Premium package. Inside this optional package are heated front/rear seats, adaptive headlights, an upgraded 14-speaker sound system, and blind-spot warning.

In our opinion, the other experts are right about the 2023 Porsche Macan S as the best choice to buy. However, we want to point out that one other trim is worth buying too. If you’re interested in a Porsche, you should be ready to spend a pretty penny. If that’s the case, the GTS trim level is the best of the best. Unfortunately, the range-topper starts at $84,350, but it’s about as “Porsche” as an SUV can get.

According to Edmunds, the Macan GTS gets an even better twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 engine, producing 434 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. Plus, it has 21-inch dark-finish wheels, upgraded brakes, an adaptive air suspension, a sport exhaust system, darkened headlights, clear taillights, and GTS Sport front seats. It also comes with just about every feature included with cheaper models.

Lastly, it’s the only trim that can get the optional GTS Sport package. This package comes with everything from the Sport Chrono package, 21-inch wheels, high-performance tires, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, 18-way adjustable adaptive sport seats, a unique exterior design, simulated suede heated steering wheel/headliner, and carbon fiber interior trim/doorsill guards.
