Buick is one of the best modern luxury brands from General Motors. There are tons of excellent options in the car and SUV segments in its lineup. Out of five different classes of SUVs reviewed by Consumer Reports, nearly every model received a “recommended” label. However, only one Buick SUV, the 2022 Buick Enclave, isn’t recommended by Consumer Reports.

Consumer Reports judges SUVs in five different luxury segments. They are entry-level, compact, midsize, and large. Buick has a model in every luxury SUV class except for midsize. Furthermore, it’s incredibly impressive that almost all of them are recommended by the publication. For example, the Buick Envision is the top-rated model in the luxury compact SUV segment overall.

2022 Buick Enclave | Buick
The 2022 Buick Enclave received a lower score than only two other luxury large SUV models. However, only one model is recommended by Consumer Reports in this segment, the 2022 BMW X7. The Enclave scored exceptionally well on its road test despite a low overall rating. Moreover, it excelled in areas like a quiet, comfortable ride, roomy interior, a smooth powertrain, and by having plenty of standard active safety systems.
Additionally, the Buick SUV received high marks for its transmission and braking, so its performance is outstanding. Next, ride, noise, seat comfort, interior fit and finish, and the trunk and cargo area are all highlights for CR. Finally, the publication noted that the infotainment system is straightforward to use and understand. So what’s wrong with the Buick luxury large SUV?
What doesn’t Consumer Reports like about the 2022 Buick Enclave?

Very few of CR’s complaints about the Enclave came during the road test. For the most part, the Enclave impressed during its time on the road. However, an unintuitive gear selector, poor fuel economy, and lack of standard safety features for lower trims are its detriment. Additionally, the Buick Enclave received a low predicted reliability rating.
For predicted reliability, CR considers the experience of owners from previous model years. If they consistently need non-routine maintenance, the vehicle is considered unreliable. For the Enclave, owners of models as recently as 2021 experienced issues with the transmission, suspension, brakes, electronics, and drive system. Overall, these are expensive repairs that are best avoided, which plays a significant role in why Consumer Reports doesn’t recommend the 2022 Buick Enclave.
How expensive is the Enclave?
Although the 2022 Buick Enclave failed to earn CR’s coveted “recommended” label, it excels in one area. For the price, the Enclave is far better than the competition. Starting with the base Essence model, the Enclave is $44,195. Moreover, it’s incredibly affordable compared to other luxury large SUV models, like the top-rated BMW X7, which starts at $74,900.
Furthermore, Enclave owners can then upgrade to the Premium or Avenir trims. Each version of the luxury large SUV is a little better than the least. For example, Premium models gain ventilated and massaging front seats, a color head-up display, and a rear camera mirror with surround vision. Next, opting for the range-topping model grants owners a two-panel sunroof, an exclusive grille, and rain-sensing wipers.
Should you buy a 2022 Buick Enclave?
According to the experts at Consumer Reports, you should avoid buying the 2022 Buick Enclave. Consumer Reports doesn’t recommend only one Buick SUV. Buick has recommended models in the luxury compact and entry-level segments from CR. However, the automaker’s only luxury large SUV option, the 2022 Buick Enclave, falls short. CR can’t recommend this Buick SUV due to its poor fuel economy, low predicted reliability, and lack of standard safety features in base trims.
