Polestar has decided to honour the promises made by the flanks of the delectable O2 Roadster and put it into full production. In 2026, you’ll be able to buy what will be known as the Polestar 6.
You can actually reserve a build slot online as of today, and one rather hopes Polestar has beefed up its servers because, well… look at it. “With the overwhelming consumer and press response, we took the decision to put this stunning roadster into production and I am so excited to make it a reality,” said Polestar boss Thomas Ingenlath.
Not an easy decision, despite how open a goal making something as pretty as this might seem. Principally because when TG last spoke to Ingenlath, he said simply putting the O2 into production was “not that easy”.
Guess it helps when the hardware is a known quantity. We’re told the 6 will sit on the same bespoke bonded aluminium platform that underpins the Polestar 5 and get the full 800-volt electric architecture. That includes two motors, 872bhp, 664lb ft of torque and a projected 0-62mph time of just 3.2s. Flat out, it’ll top 155mph.
TG understands the Polestar 6 won’t be built in limited numbers – like the Polestar 1, for example – but it also won’t crest the production highs of something like a Polestar 2. So they’ll make a few, but not loads. We know there’ll be 500 ‘Polestar 6 LA Concept’ edition cars built that’ll all come in the sky blue paint pictured above, light leather interior and 21in wheels. Basically the… Los Angeles concept car spec.
Price? Somewhere in the region of $200,000, though this will be confirmed at launch. Yes, it’s expensive, but Polestar’s reasoning is that this car represents what the company is all about.
“Polestar O2 is the hero car for our brand,” Ingenlath said at the concept’s LA reveal. “It opens the door to our secret chamber of future potential. This is a taste of what we can design and engineer.”
