Jeep has been around for a while, and for good reason. Jeeps have a devoted fan base among consumers and are considered the first SUV. ‘It’s a Jeep thing’ is the unofficial phrase adopted by Jeep owners, and it refers to various aspects of owning a Jeep that only owners would understand. There is also a special Jeep wave that Jeep owners use to greet each other on the road.
Jeep’s utility vehicles have come to define their class, whether you’re driving the roads or exploring some of the country’s best off-road tracks. However, Consumer Reports doesn’t share the same enthusiasm as its fan base. It may come as a surprise to some that Jeep is now ranked low among automobile brands by CR. Jeeps have been excluded from the recommended sections of the site with not one model recommendation and, frankly, pretty terrible scores across the board. Let’s take a look at the numbers from Consumer Reports.
2022 Jeep Renegade
2022 Jeep Renegade | FCA US LLC.
As one of the most affordable Jeep models, the 2022 Jeep Renegade subcompact SUV is an entry-level offering for the brand. Consumer Reports gave the 2022 Jeep Renegade an overall score of 42/100. Additionally, it received a score of 56/100 on the road test. Its predicted reliability score is 2/5, and its predicted owner satisfaction is 1/5.
2022 Jeep Compass
The 2022 Jeep Compass is a small crossover with off-road capabilities. Consumer Reports gave the 2022 Jeep Compass an overall score of 45/100, a road test score of 56/100, a predicted reliability score of 2/5, and a predicted owner satisfaction score of 1/5. These numbers are eerily similar to the Renegade, with the only difference being the overall score.
2022 Jeep Cherokee
The 2022 Jeep Cherokee SUV has been around since 1974, rivaling the Wrangler in popularity. It scored a little better with an overall score of 54/100. Consumer Reports gave the Cherokee a score of 68/100 on the road test, a predicted reliability score of 2/5, and a predicted owner satisfaction score of 2/5.
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L
Consumer Reports gave the Jeep Grand Cherokee L a score of 63/100 overall. The road test score is an impressive 75/100, and its predicted owner satisfaction score is 4/5. However, the predicted reliability score is 2/5. Even with a relatively high predicted owner score, it still failed to be a recommendation on the site.
2022 Jeep Wrangler
The Jeep Wrangler SUV is iconic in the realm of Jeep owners. They are highly customizable and are capable of navigating all types of terrain. Surprisingly, it had some of the worst scores. Consumer Reports gave it an overall score of 28/100, a road test score of 36/100, a predicted reliability score of 2/5, and a predicted owner satisfaction score of 4/5. Even with the lower scores, the predicted owner satisfaction score was relatively high.
Some Jeep SUVs are currently being tested or haven’t been tested, so they don’t have scores listed yet on the Consumer Reports site. Those models include the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer, and the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer.
Jeep has been rated as one of the worst brands on Consumer Reports out of 32 car brands. In the land of car buying, Consumer Reports can sometimes make or break a brand. However, that isn’t stopping die-hard Jeep fans from buying.
Jeeps are popular among certain consumers due to their off-road prowess and classic appearance exclusive to the automaker. For those that crave the rugged outdoors, Jeep is the go-to brand that makes off-roading adventure dreams come to life. Indeed, it is unlikely that die-hard Jeep fans will give much weight to the opinion of the Consumer Reports site when making their purchase.
